The proposal of the Senate of Namık Kemal University regarding the establishment of a State Conservatory of Turkish Music within the university's Rectorate was examined at the General Assembly of Higher Education meeting on March 1, 2013, and the proposal was deemed appropriate in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880.
ABOUT THE STATE CONSERVATORY OF TURKISH MUSIC
The development of our country's musical arts and its representation and promotion on international platforms is a matter of great importance. It is necessary to evaluate the accumulated knowledge of our traditional Turkish music art in terms of continuity, without breaking with tradition, but in a way that is compatible with today's global values. For this purpose, there is a need for Turkish music vocalists and instrumentalists, music researchers, theorists, and music educators who can integrate the identity of the art they represent with other valid art forms, respect ethical values, and possess academic qualifications.
Tekirdağ, a province located entirely in Thrace, known for its coastline on two seas, a steadily increasing population approaching one million, and the potential to incorporate the cultural structure of the Balkans, currently lacks an academic music school providing Turkish Music education. Furthermore, the geographical features of Tekirdağ, reflecting the dynamics of the Marmara, Aegean, and Balkan regions, demonstrate the sensitivity of its people to traditional music, and it is known that they have developed their own unique repertoire throughout history. With the establishment of the Tekirdağ Fine Arts High School in 2002, a significant need for a Turkish Music Conservatory has arisen in the province.
